Rivers State FA Cup Final: Rivers United Thrashed Police Crime Busters To Complete Domestic Double

Reigning Nigeria Professional Football League(NPFL) champions, Rivers United continued their impressive campaign on Wednesday evening after defeating Police Crime Busters F.C of Port Harcourt 3-1 in the final of the 2022 Rivers State FA Cup to win their second trophy of the season.

Some controversies ensued in the build-up to today’s final match over the change of venue from the Sharks football Stadium which has been the traditional host venue for the AITEO Cup finals to Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, with the Head Coach of Police Crime Busters, ASP Douye Ghomorai condemning the move but the organizers on playing the match.

Chijioke Akuneto opened the scoring for the league champions in the 37th minute of the final match thanks to a Sikiru Oluwatosin assist, before he went ahead to double the lead just a minute later with Chijioke Akuneto reciprocating Sikiru’s earlier help as “The Pride of Rivers” ended the first half with a comfortable 2-0 lead.

Malachi Ohawume beat the Busters’ goalkeeper with an intelligent chip off an assist from Festus Austin to make it 3-0 in the 84th minute. Police Crime Busters grabbed a consolation just before the full-time whistle.

At full time, Rivers United walked away with a 3-1 victory at Adokiye Amiesimaka stadium and the 2022 Rivers State Aiteo cup title to complete a domestic double, having already crowned the winners of the 2021/2022 NPFL season.
