Six-time Nigerian champions Rivers Hoopers have received a major competitive boost with the return of foreign-born Nigerian stars Kelvin Amayo and Peter Olisemeka, as the team intensifies its hunt for a seventh league crown at the 2025 Nigeria Basketball Premier League (NBPL) Playoffs in Port Harcourt.
The club confirmed the duo’s comeback on Wednesday—three days into the playoffs—in what is widely viewed as a decisive reinforcement for Hoopers’ campaign to secure the NBPL title and punch their ticket to the 2026 Basketball Africa League (BAL).

Amayo’s return, in particular, signals a strong statement of intent. The explosive guard was instrumental in Rivers Hoopers’ historic third-place finish at the 2024 BAL, averaging 16 points, 6.7 assists, 5.3 rebounds, and 2.2 steals per game in a standout season that earned him spots on the All-BAL Second Team and the BAL All-Defensive Second Team.
He didn’t stop there—Amayo powered the Hoopers to victory in the 2024 NBPL Final Eight, securing their BAL qualification, clinching the MVP award, and sealing a place in the tournament’s Best Five.
With Olisemeka—known for his physical presence, rim protection, and rebounding strength—also back in the roster, Rivers Hoopers now boast the firepower, athleticism, and experience required to dominate the playoffs.
The move adds depth to the KingsMen squad as they chase not just another Nigerian title, but a return to the continental stage, where they have emerged as Nigeria’s most consistent BAL representatives in recent years.
