Secretary of the Hockey Federation of Nigeria, Rita Mordi has bemoaned the lack of financial support towards the sport in the country.
She noted in a chat with Sports247.ng that attention must be paid to the grassroots in order to re position the sport.
“Sports need financial strength and muscle. If you don’t spend money to motivate and develop athletes all efforts will be in vain,” Rita Mordi told Sports247.ng in an interview on Friday.
“Hockey in Nigeria has wide range of potential and prospect but the sport has suffered from lack of financial support over the years. This is very worrisome I must confess.”
“The grassroot should be the map for development. We need to comb the country for youthful talents for technical and talented Hockey players. All these won’t be possible without adequate funds.”
“The solution is the grassroot. This will make Hockey viable to investors to be encouraged to pump their resources and make the sport one to be proud of in Nigeria,” she added.
