Rivers Angels coach, Edwin Okon has urged the Super Falcons to prioritise good results ahead of sexy football in the ongoing Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) in Ghana.
The eight-time African champions haven’t really found their normal groove in the Group B, but they have won one of their two games so far.
“Nigerians want the team to play well and win games – this is always the target of any serious team. We want the ladies to play sexy football and get good resultd, but the reality is that sometimes it’s not easy,” Edwin Okon told Sports247.ng.
However, the Super Falcons were made to work for their 4-0 victory against Zambia on Wednesday
The former Super Falcons trainer indicated that getting a result is sometimes more important than playing sexy football.
“Sometimes you don’t play well but it’s very important that you get the result, and this is the moment where the Super Falcons need the result to gain confidence,” he continued.
“When it’s possible, they will play sexy football that the fans can also enjoy. But, sometimes it’s not possible. It’s not possible to play champagne football every game, you know?” Okon asked.
“Sometimes you don’t play well and this is the moment you need to fight to get the result. The target is always to try to play sexy football, but the reality is that sometimes it’s not easy.”
The Super Falcons will face Equatorial Guinea in their final Group B game on Saturday.
