A team of engineers under the aegis of The Nigerian Society of Engineers went on a technical visit to the stadium to have a look at the ongoing remodeling works on the stadium.
Technical issues were raised and discussed, but here are the highlights of some of the issues of public interest:
1. The initial seating capacity was 8,000 but after remodeling, it will be increased to 10,000.
2. All the seating areas are now covered, except for pitch.
3. The dressing rooms have been increased from 2 to 4.
4. There’s now a VAR Room, Media Tribune and commentary box.
5. There’s going to be a VVIP Area to be covered with glass and fully Air-conditioned.
6. There’s going to be a podium within the VIP area, where players can come to receive medals.
7. The playing turf has been changed to natural grass but a training pitch will be renovated and artificial turf laid on it.
8. There’s going to be floodlights,3 electronic scoreboards.
9. Fascia panels have already been fixed
Among the questions raised were, why is the fascia please panel not electronic,in line with what is obtainable abroad?
Questions were also asked about drainage of runoff water from the pitch.
Soil preparations are already on for the base of the turf, but there seems to be no provision to drain water from the pitch to the perimeter drainage around the pitch.
The contact person couldn’t convince us on the drainage issue but later contended that the contractor’s Groundsmen are consulting FIFA experts on the way to go, so as to give the best finish.
The stadium is going to be one of the best in the country by the time the remodeling is concluded.
The 5 billion Naira project is expected to also provide street lights around the stadium, up to 1km radius round the stadium and a CCTV camera covering up to a radius of 5km around the stadium, this is to assist in traffic management on matchdays around the stadium.
