Remo Stars Ladies Duo Sweeps Prostar/NWFAwards for February

Remo Stars Ladies coach Matthew Showemimo and forward Bolaji Olamide have won the Naija Women Football Awards (NWFAwards) for February, Sports247 reports.

Coach Showemimo emerged as the best coach for the month of February, beating other nominees in a vote conducted by the organizers. The vote was based on the aggregate votes of a panel of jury and online followers and fans of the NWFL Premier League.

Showemimo secured a total of 55% of the votes, surpassing Tosan Blankson of Rivers Angels, who garnered 25.25% of the votes. Aduku Moses of Edo Queens and Ogbonda Whyte of Bayelsa Queens received 12% and 7.25% of the votes, respectively.

Coach Showemimo’s impressive performance in February, where her team won all four matches, scoring 12 goals and conceding only one, contributed to her award win. Remo Stars currently lead Group B of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership, remaining unbeaten after seven games in the first stanza.

 

In a clean sweep for Remo Stars, top striker Bolaji Olamide also won the February edition of the Player of the Month award. Olamide secured 35.55% of the votes, beating teammate Bashiru Kafayat, who garnered 28.6% of the votes.

Mary Lucky of Abia Angels came third in the poll with 12% of the total votes, while Emem Peace Essien of Edo Queens and Moses Mary of Rivers Angels finished fourth and fifth, respectively, with 11.25% and 4.85% of the votes.

Bolaji Olamide has scored in all matches played so far this season, leading the scorers’ chart of the NWFL Premiership with nine goals after the first stanza.

The award presentation ceremony will take place at Ikenne after the resumption of the second stanza of the league, scheduled for March 19, 2025. The winners will receive award plaques, cash, Prostar balls, tracksuits for the coach, and a shirt for the player.
