Although Bankole admitted his surge into the Eagles’ squad comes at a point when they face a dicey situation in the World Cup qualifiers, the fast-growing shot-stopper confessed that he is still amazed that he now has the opportunity to mingle with Nigeria’s top players.
Bankole beamed with a relish, saying: “It’s a great feeling for me, being in the midst of the big boys and superstars. It’s simply amazing.
In fact, when I was coming to camp, I spoke to Coach Daniel (Ogunmodede of Remo Stars) and Coach Fidelis Ilechukwu of Rangers … since I’m familiar with them. We put minds together, and we agreed that it’s an amazing feeling for me.”
Bankole also took a look at his prospects of becoming a regular starter in the Eagles, but the youthful netminder admitted he will have to waif for his time to come, especially as the team are currently in a terse situation regarding qualification for the next World Cup.
Bankole expatiated: “Getting the call-up is a great feeling for me, but it also means I have to work harder. It also comes at a time when there is a big task ahead of us because everybody expects Nigeria to qualify for the World Cup; which I know we can do. Impossible is nothing for me and, with God on our side, I know it’s going to be possible.”
He concluded with another expression of thanks, giving plaudits to everyone who made his invitation possible and promised to make the best of it.
“It’s also my chance to move higher. I’ve been the one winning the best goalkeeper award in the past two league seasons, but I didn’t get the call-up until now. I just believed that I should keep doing what I know how to do. I knew that someday my invitation would surely come, and I am glad it has finally come,” Bankole exuded with delight.
