The win, secured in the dying moments of the game, keeps Remo Stars firmly in the league title race.
Coach Daniel Ogunmodede shared his emotions with the club’s media after the match. “It’s unbelievable. Incredible. I never thought we could get the maximum three points with what happened in the game,” he said. Despite scoring early in the sixth minute, Ogunmodede felt his team underperformed for much of the match. “We had a very poor game today. After we scored in the early minutes, we went to sleep. We underrated them and were seriously dead.”
Kano Pillars capitalized on a blunder by Remo Stars’ goalkeeper early in the second half, leveling the score. Ogunmodede acknowledged the mistake but emphasized the importance of his team’s perseverance. “It’s one of those days. The team generally didn’t do as well as expected today. But in terms of character, we showed a lot of character. And that is what is most important. And at the end, it paid off.”
The coach’s sentiments reflect the critical need for determination during this stage of the campaign. With their next match against Lobi Stars, Ogunmodede remains optimistic about their title chances. “Very well. We are 59 points now. The league leader is 60 points. That’s just a point difference. Twelve more points to fight for, that’s about four matches. So the league is widely and extremely open.”
Remo Stars’ victory not only secured three crucial points but also demonstrated their ability to fight back under pressure, keeping their hopes for the league title alive. The upcoming clash with Lobi Stars will be pivotal as the season reaches its climax.
