Former Chairman, Gombe Football Association, Gara Gombe has said that any indigenous Coach in Nigeria will perform better than the Current Super Eagles Head Coach, Gernot Rohr.
Gernot Roh has been heavily criticized by many, following the Super Eagles’ disappointing draws against the Leone Stars of Sierra in the doubleheader of the AFCON qualifiers, most especially the 4-4 draw in Benin where Nigeria were held at home, despite taking a 4-1 lead at halftime, questioning the technical abilities of the German.
Gara Gombe in an interview with Sports 247, when being asked about the Issue of indigenous Coaches performing better than Gernot Rohr, he said any Coach in Nigeria would do far better than the German Tactician if given the right support, encouragement, enabling Environment, and right Framework.
“On the issue of indigenous coaches who can do better than what Rohr is doing right now, let me tell you, any coach in Nigeria, once given the right support and at least within the coaches that are known to have to have been coaching the Premier League (NPFL) that is has been tested. There are those coaches who have not been employed right now, they are all over the place, when given the right environment and support, they can do better”.
“You can imagine, How much is Rohr collecting, we are paying Rohr 46000 dollars a month, that is equivalent to the Salaries of the President of Nigeria and the Senate President and the Speaker put together in one month and for us to be getting this rubbish, what is the Justification?. So we have Coached, let us give them the right framework, the right support, the enabling environment that we are giving the foreigners and see whether they will not perform. I have not seen any Nigerian Coaches that is been given 5 years to succeed”, he said.
