Former NFF board member and Special Adviser on Real Madrid Academy to Rivers State governor, Barrister Christopher Green has assured the players and officials of Rivers Angels of government support ahead of Thursday’s final against Hasaacas Ladies in Abidjan.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Nigerian champions thrashed Amis du Monde of Togo 5-1 in the semis to book a spot in the final and also qualify for the finals of the Women’s Champions League in Egypt.
Barrister Green while speaking with the players via phone call on Wednesday night in the wake of the achievement, congratulated the girls for their performance so far in the competition and for being good ambassadors of Rivers State and Nigeria as a whole.
Should the team secure the zonal title, he also assured the girls of massive reception at the airport on the day of their arrival to Port Harcourt from the WAFU-B zonal qualifiers in Cote d’Ivoire.
“First of all I want to say congratulations to you girls, you have been very good ambassadors of Nigeria, not only of Rivers State,” Green, who is also the Rivers State Football Association chairman, started.
“I want to let you know this, that His Excellency the Governor is waiting for you. We are all going to come out to the airport to receive you. You are the best, continue to be the best. Skill, speed and strength is what we need in this match. Almighty God will see you through, you will not have any injuries, you will come out victorious.”
While responding to the goodwill message, captain of the team Catherine Kenneth thanked Barrister Green for his love and care towards them, also promised that they will do best to ensure they lift the trophy.
“On behalf of the team, we are saying thank you for your call. Thank you for your support and for your prayers. May God bless you and by the grace of God, we’ll do our best to come back home with the trophy,” she assured.
Rivers Angels will for the second time face Hasaacas Ladies in the WAFU-B WCL qualifiers on Thursday in a match that will determine the over all winner in the region.
