Rasheedat Ajibade Lauds Her Teammates, Insists Super Falcons Remains The Best Team

Rasheedat Ajibade has reacted positively in the aftermath of Nigeria’s elimination from the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations against Morocco on Monday night.

The Super Falcons bowed out 5-4 on penalties to the Lionesses of Atlas in the semi-finals of the tournament after a 1-1 draw in regulation time plus an additional thirty minutes of extra time.

Ajibade was sent off in the 70th after she received her second yellow card of the game. Her dismissal was the second for Randy Waldrum’s side on the night, which came after Halimatu Ayinde was given her marching orders a few minutes into the second half.

Nigeria held on with nine players but fell short of defending their WAFCON title in a penalty shoot-out. Ifeoma Onumonu was the only player to miss from the spot as the Super Falcons fell 5-4.

Ajibade has praised her teammates for their collective efforts and also labeled the team as the best. The Atlético Madrid Femeníno forward tweeted:

“Words ain’t enough to describe the passion, resilience, tenacity of this Super Falcons team, we remain the best. Super proud of you all.”

Nigeria will play the Copper Queens of Zambia in the third-place playoff on Friday, July 22nd. Morocco will battle South Africa’s Banyana Banyana in the final a day later.
