The ended NPFL 2020/2021 season was an interesting one but we sadly did not achieve our set target for the season due largely to injuries to key players for most part of the season.
But, like great sportsmen that we are, we have taken it in its strides and set our focus on the soon to start 2021/2022 season with a lot of expectations for the best and attract continental football back to ‘The Cathedral’, Nnamdi Azikiwe stadium, Enugu.
Some statistics of our players in the ended season (Subject to ratification) by the organizers of the league, NPFL.
Sixteen players were involved in the 43 goals scored by us with Christian Nnaji leading with ten goals closely followed by Godspower Aniefiok with seven goals while Israel Abia found the opponent’ net six times just as mid-season recruit Elijah Ani helped the club with three goals.
Three shot stoppers were involved in the thirty-one goals we shipped in with Ghanaian, Nana Bonsu beaten 14 times while keeping 9 clean sheets in twenty games he started, veteran, Femi Thomas conceded seven goals and had four clean sheets in eight matches he started while Ghanaian youth international, Seidu Mutawakilu, kept five clean sheets, conceded ten goals in twelve matches he started.
Rangers International F.C is joint top 5th scoring team with Lobi Stars F.C of Makurdi and Heartland F.C of Owerri with 43 goals behind Nasarawa United of 55 goals, Akwa United with 53 goals, Kwara United and Rivers United on 48 goals and Plateau United with 45 goals.
Rangers International F.C rank the 4th best defending side of the season having leaked in 31 goals behind Akwa United F.C’ defense line that conceded only 24 goals, Kwara United with 28 goals and Kano Pillars with 29 goals.
Delta state born defender, Ernest Governor, who joined us at the start of the season, is the only player to miss only one official match (Enugu state Aiteo cup 2021 final match) of the forty that the team played in the season. He started 33 matches and sat out 6 on the bench.
Christian Nnaji started 34 games and sat out three on the bench, defensive midfield maestro, Tony Shimaga Msonter started and finished 33 matches while right-back and team captain, Temitope Olusesi started and finished 24 games with a solitary bench appearance in the season. Uche John and Ifeanyi Nweke had 29 and 28 starts to their names with 5 and 4 bench appearances respectively.
Nigerian, Benin republic born left-back, Isaac Loute is the top scoring defender for the season with two goals to his credit and he is closely followed by Ernest Governor, Ifeanyi Nweke and Ivorian, Issif Traore with a goal each to their names.
Ibrahim Olawoyin put his name on the scorer’s chat twice same as Ugochukwu Ugwuoke, Shedrack Asiegbu with over half a dozen assists between them while Esor Achibong and Chiamaka Madu got on the score sheet once from our creative midfield department.
