This decision comes after the Enugu-based team failed to secure approval to use their traditional home ground, the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium.

Rangers International, known for their fervent fan base and rich history, had their sights set on playing at their iconic stadium.

However, logistical issues and compliance concerns with CAF regulations meant the approval for Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium was not granted in time.

With the clock ticking and the need to finalize a venue pressing, the club’s management turned to the Akwa Ibom International Stadium, popularly known as the Nest of Champions. This stadium, located in Uyo, is renowned for its world-class facilities and has previously hosted numerous international fixtures, including the Nigerian national team’s matches.

The decision to move the game to Uyo was met with mixed reactions from the fans. While some expressed disappointment at not being able to cheer on their team in Enugu, others acknowledged the necessity of the move and the benefits of playing in a top-notch facility.

“The Nest of Champions offers an excellent environment for our players to perform at their best,” said Felix Anyansi-Agwu, the club’s chairman. “Although we would have loved to play at Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium, the most important thing is to ensure we have a venue that meets all CAF standards and provides a great experience for both players and fans.”

The team’s head coach, Fidelis Ilechukwu, also weighed in on the situation, emphasizing the importance of adapting to circumstances.

“Our focus remains on winning, no matter where we play. The Nest of Champions is a fantastic stadium, and we are confident that we will have strong support from fans in Uyo and beyond.”

As Rangers International prepares for this crucial match, the players are determined to make the most of their temporary home.

The upcoming fixture at the Nest of Champions promises to be a thrilling encounter, showcasing the resilience and adaptability of one of Nigeria’s most storied football clubs.
