Nigeria’s sole representatives in the CAF Confederation Cup, Rangers International have gotten their opponents for the next round of the competition.
The Flying Antelopes will face Lesotho outfit Bantu in the play off round of the second tier club competition in Africa.
At a draw held on Friday evening, the reigning Aiteo Cup champions were handed a supposedly easy pairing for the right to play in the group stage for the competition.
Rangers enjoyed a 5-1 aggregate win over Defence Force at the preliminary stage of the competition, before flying past Union Madinet Bel Abbes 2-0 in the last round.
The playoff, like the previous two rounds, will be held over two legs and Rangers will first play away between January 11 and 13, 2019 and finish off the tie at home in Enugu between January 18 and 20, 2019.
No Nigerian team has ever won the CAF Confederation Cup in its present format
Rangers last won a continental trophy in 1977 after a 5-2 aggregate win over Cameroonian giants, Canon Sportive of Yaounde in the CAF Cup Winners Competition inside Ahmadu Ahidjo stadium, which ended 1-1 after the first leg in Nigeria ended 4-1 for the ‘Flying Antelopes’ with legends like Christian Chukwu (Mfr), Christian Madu, Alloysious Atuegbu, Emma Okala, Nnamdi Nwokocha, Chika Nwosu, etc all distinguishing themselves on that fateful December 14, 1977.
