Six-time national champions and dominant Enugu State Federation Cup winners, Rangers International F.C, began their quest for a seventh national trophy with a commanding 3-0 victory over Enugu Angels F.C in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Enugu State President Federation Cup.
The match, held at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, saw Godwin Obaje scoring twice in the 10th and 25th minutes, including a penalty, while Frank Uwumiro added a third at the half-hour mark.
Despite an early offensive push by the state league side, Rangers’ defense, led by goalkeeper Kingdom Osayi, stood firm. The midfield trio of Chinemerem Ugwueze, Isaac Saviour, and Kazeem Ogunleye controlled the game, ensuring consistent pressure on the opponents.
Obaje opened the scoring with a clinical finish after a well-placed cut-back from Uwumiro and doubled the lead from the penalty spot after Ugwueze was fouled in the box. Uwumiro sealed the win with a composed finish following Ogunleye’s pinpoint through ball.
Efforts to extend the lead were thwarted by Enugu Angels’ goalkeeper Ojobo Ifebuche and resilient defending in the second half.
Rangers will face Great Achievers F.C of Emene, who defeated Udi Stars 2-1 in their quarterfinal match, on February 19, 2025.
