The Anambra state Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) will on Saturday 30th January 2021 starts its two-day screening exercise to select U16 players that will represent the state at the 2021 Ramat Cup Championship.
The tournament is billed for Kano from February 5 to February 13, 2021, is aimed at discovering young talented footballers at the grassroots across the nation.
Chairman of the Anambra YSFON, Engineer Akonam Obiefuna said 21 Local Government teams are expected to take part in the screening process which will be played in a playoff format in which the state technical committee members will select the best players which form the State U16 team.
Engineer Obiefuna while shedding more light on how the screening exercise will take place, disclosed that each local government in the state will provide a team.
Scheduled to hold daily from 9 am at NEROS Sports Stadium Nanka, the exercise will round off on Sunday 31st January where the list of the team that will travel to represent Anambra in the Ramat Cup in Kano will be concluded.
Determined to turn things around in the competition, Engineer Obiefuna said, “We Want to give the youth of Anambra state a platform through Ysfon and the Ramat Cup. Our objective is to do our best to return the lost glory of Nigeria football at the grassroots.”
Scribe of Anambra YSFON, Rafeal Nweke, also informed that a four-man technical committee made up of experienced administrators, have also been appointed to oversee the screening.
The members of the Technical Committee include Oliver Ndigwe (Technical Director), Donatus Ezeokafor (Deputy Technical Director), Chidi Iroanusi (Member), and Raphael Nweke (member and YSFON Anambra Secretary).
