Rival Coach, Rafael Cordeiro who coaches both Marvin Vettori and Kelvin Gastelum has revealed that Israel Adesanya’s mental game has made him a formidable fighter above his technical skills.
Cordeiro who has made plans to beat Adesanya but failed on all occasions believes ‘Stylebender’ has an elite mentality, which is his best weapon.
Adesanya is undefeated in the 185-pound division and is so far a puzzle none of his opponents have managed to solve other than Jan Blachowicz in a step up for the light-heavyweight belt.
While ‘Stylebender’ is known for his razor-sharp striking, it is his intelligence inside the octagon that impresses Cordeiro most.
Cordeiro said, “his technique is good, but his mental is better than his technique. He has high IQ inside the octagon. I believe this makes the difference between him and a lot of fighters.”
“But he’s not unbreakable. In the future, for sure, we’re going to find a way to beat him.”
He may have the chance to back up his fighting talk if Vettori comes out on top against Robert Whittaker.
The pair will go toe-to-toe in Paris on September 3 and with the Italian expected to arrive as an underdog, an impressive win would put him in the frame for a third go at Adesanya.
