Nigeria’s leading male table tennis player, Aruna Quadri has set for himself a high target of bettering everything he achieved in the ping pong sport all through and wants to redouble his efforts this year.
Sports247.ng reports that 2018 was indeed a very prolific and illustrious year for the Portugal-based player, but Quadri says he wants to do even better this time out for club and country
Quadri has made a mark on the continental and world scenes since his breakthrough in 2014, when he became the first African to win the ITTF World Table Tennis player of The Year award.
His performance at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games prompted International Olympic Committee (IOC) to name him the best African table tennis star of all time.
A year later, his victory at the 2017 Poland Open made him the first African to claim an ITTF tournament title outside the continent.
Quadri also set the pace for his country last year, as he became the first to win the ITTF Nigeria Open in 2018 with a heroic display in the final of the annual competition, which has held in Lagos since 2014.
Despite all his achievements and strides, Quari is staying humble, as he says he wants to achieve more for himself and his country, Nigeria.
He added: “For all these successes of the past year, I must redouble my efforts in training and continue to compete in major competitions.
“I will not be carried away by my rising profile but stay humble; and remain focused in order to maintain my status on the global rankings.”
