Nigeria’s Quadri Aruna, the sole representative from the country at the ITTF World Cup Macao 2024, has been drawn into Group 15 of the men’s singles.
Quadri Aruna will face stiff competition against Portugal’s Marcos Freitas and Puerto Rico’s Daniel Gonzalez in his quest to advance to the second stage of the tournament.
The 48 players participating in the event have been divided into 16 groups, with each group comprising three players. The winner of each group will progress to the next stage of the competition.
Quadri Aruna, a familiar face at the ITTF World Cup, holds the distinction of being the first and only African player to reach the quarter-finals of the prestigious tournament, which boasts a prize pool of $1 million. He is set to kick off his campaign against Portugal’s Freitas on Monday, April 15, with his final group match scheduled against Puerto Rico’s Gonzalez on Tuesday, April 16.
In addition to Quadri Aruna, Egypt’s contingent, consisting of Omar Assar, Ahmed Saleh, and Mohamed El-Beiali, will also be vying for success in their respective groups (16, 11, and nine). As the competition heats up, fans eagerly anticipate thrilling matches and remarkable performances from the players representing their nations on the international stage.
