Quadri Aruna Climbs to 16th in ITTF Ranking, Set for WTT Contender Zagreb Showdown

Quadri Aruna, the Nigerian star, has climbed one step up to secure the 16th spot in the ITTF Ranking. This achievement, announced in Week 23 of the 2024 ITTF Ranking, makes Aruna the highest-ranked African player.

Aruna’s rise in the ranking began in Week 22, following his impressive performance at the Saudi Smash, where he finished in the round of 16. His appeal for the restoration of his World Table Tennis Championships points was accepted by the ITTF Executive Board, propelling him to his current position.

As Aruna continues to accumulate points ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, he is set to face Frane Kojic, a local player, in the first round of the men’s singles at the 2024 WTT Contender Zagreb in Serbia. He awaits formal confirmation from ITTF for his qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, which will be determined based on the world ranking on June 11.

Meanwhile, Spain’s Alvaro Robles has made a significant leap in the ITTF Ranking. Robles, who started 2018 at No.37 in the world, has achieved a career-high ranking by jumping 15 places up the ladder to No.32. This is a testament to his commitment to the sport and his recent form, as he reached the final of two WTT events in 2024, including last week’s WTT Contender Mendoza.

Despite losing the title in a thrilling seven-game duel with Benedikt Duda of Germany, Robles’ new career-high ranking is expected to fuel his ambition to climb even higher in the world of table tennis.
