As Nigeria plays host to the Black Stars of Ghana on Tuesday for the Qatar 2022 World Cup Playoffs, the former Sunshine Stars handler, Coach Samson Unuanel has advocated total support for the senior national team and warned players and technical crew against complacency.
Unuanel while charging the three-time African Champions to be miles better than what they did in Kumasi on Friday warned the Eagles to double their efforts and ensure they neutralize the high-flying Ghanaian side on Tuesday.
In his words, the former Kwara United and Enyimba Coach said:” This is not the time for blame game but the time to remind the team that every match against Ghana is always very difficult. They should forget about what happened in Port Harcourt 29 years ago but they should write their own story, sing their own songs with an emphatic victory. The only news Nigerians want to read after the encounter is victory and secure the ticket to the Mundia or else the entire nation will be disastrously perplexed, God forbid.” Said the Edo State-born Tactician.
I think the players should know the importance of the game. It’s a make or mar clash that will have a direct effect on their value as professional players. We have a bitter rival to contend with and all the eyes would be on the game.”
The Ghanaians I know will come out smoke against us”. Warned, the Kano Pillars Assistant Coach.
“What we want now is for people to mobilize support for the Eagles and be warned not to let the nation down. The pain inflicted on football-loving Nigerians at the last African cup of nations in Cameroon has not healed in the minds of over 180 million people and this is the opportunity for Augustine Eguavoen to lead the side to prove their worth and yank off their opponents on Tuesday.”
“It’s good to hear that Senator Orji Uzor Kalu Foundation has purchased 5,000 tickets for interested fans who would be available to support the Super Eagles on Tuesday. I think the Eagles must also put smiles on our faces by winning the match.” Said the former Prime FC gaffer.
“Suffix to add that the FCT Minister has made provision for more free 100 buses to mobilize fans into the stadium. This is cheering and commendable” Unuanel submitted
The playoffs between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Black Stars of Ghana come up on Tuesday at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja by 5 pm.
