Kano Pillars, Niger United, Seasider Babes, Edo Dynamos, Desert Queens, and Plateau Peacocks all had good outings in yesterday’s men and women fixtures of the Prudent Energy Handball Premier League holding at the Mobolaji Sports Complex, Rowe Park, Yaba, Lagos.
League leaders, Kano Pillars look set to win this year’s men’s category of the league, as they defeated Plateau Vipers 31-22 to boost their chances of dethroning the defending champions, Niger United.
Niger United on the other hand, white-washed Borno Spiders 40-28 in a one-sided encounter to brighten their stake of finishing in the top three brackets. The defending champion had squandered their chances of retaining their title after suffering a defeat to the Lagos Seasiders in one of the fixtures.
In yesterday’s fixtures of the women class, Defender Babes were beaten 25-35 by Seasiders. The Seasiders have won eight of their matches so far to the delight of their fans and Coach Bukola Duru after their victory over the Defenders.
The game between Edo Dynamos and Abia Valiants ended in a scandalous 41-19 result in favour of the Dynamos. The Valiants, who are now second from the bottom in the women’s table, may be on their way out of the premier league to the lower division.
The whipping team of the women’s class, Owena Queens, again suffered another defeat. They were beaten 15-23 by Desert Queens to extend their woeful performances to 18 defeats. The Akure ladies have only won one game at this year’s final phase of the women’s league, while the Desert Queens seemed to have done enough to remain in the elite division.The defending champion of the women’s class, Plateau Peacocks, yesterday humbled Kada Queens 24-23 in a narrow win that saw the two teams fighting out for a favourable results which eventually went to Peacocks to the delight of the spectators.
