Sporting Supreme FC of Abuja have faulted Monday’s 2-1 loss to El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri, even as they stay hopeful of picking a spot in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
This charge was revealed by one of the FCT club’s attacking midfielders, Chukwunonso Henry Okoro, who blamed his side’s defeat on poor officiating during the match at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.
Although Okoro cried foul with the level of officiating in his club’s second match at the ongoing Nigeria National League (NNL) Super-8 play-off in The Coal City, he predicted that they will achieve a revival on Wednesday.
He enthused that Sporting Supreme can still pick the group’s second promotion ticket if they beat already promoted Nasarawa United of Lafia in their last match at the same venue.
Okoro externuated: “We can not feel too good because the officiating was not good. Everyone saw what happened; the officiating was not good.
“Let them leave the game open, and we will see what would happen. This was a game from which any team would gain promotion. It’s not a must for El-Kanemi to be the team that would be promoted. They are a good side, yes; but we are also a good side.”
He argued further that Friday’s officiating would make way for a level playing field among all teams, which he was the case in his side’s opening day win against Sokoto United.
“Let them allow an open game, and we will beat them. See what happened in our first game. As they opened the game, we won the match.
“All this they are doing in Nigerian football is not good. If they do not stop this kind of thing, nobody can go far in football. Even the main ogas cannot go far. So they need to stop.
“Anyway, let’s now focus on our last game against Nasarawa. That game can still see us in promotion if we win it.
“Nobody knows what will happen, but we believe we can come through in the next game. By God’s grace, we will come through in the next game,” Okoro supplicated.
Heading into Wednesday’s last group matches, Nasarawa United are through to tge NPFL already, with six points in their kitty, while Sporting Supreme and El-Kanemi Warriors are on three each, with Sokoto United last on no point.
In the other group. Beyond Limit on Ikenne lead with four points, followed by Madiba FC on three, Ikorodu City with two and Inter Lagos last with one.
