Prosperity Cup: Technical Committee Inspects Pitches Ahead of Season Seven Kickoff

The Technical Committee of Nigeria’s premier football tournament, the Bayelsa Governor’s Football Tournament, popularly known as the Prosperity Cup, has commenced a pitch inspection tour in preparation for the competition slated to begin next month.

Led by Technical Director Mr. Diseye Nwankwe, the committee visited Otuasega, Imiringi, and the Yenizue-Gene/Biogbolo Secondary School pitches to evaluate their readiness as host centers.

Over 20 venues have been shortlisted by the Central Organizing Committee (COC) for this season, which was last won by Ogboinbiri FC of Southern Ijaw LGA.

At the Otuasega center, Sunday Oliemen, Head Coach of Movers FC, expressed the community’s excitement about being selected as a host, promising a warm and hospitable atmosphere.

Similarly, Bennet Akalusio from Imiringi appreciated the organizers for recognizing the community, highlighting the tournament’s role in producing talents now playing within and beyond Nigeria.

Mr. Nwankwe noted that the pitches visited are in excellent condition, emphasizing that the tour aimed to ensure proper readiness.

He confirmed that 24 out of the 26 proposed centers are expected to be certified, with the final list to be presented to the COC.

The selected venues include multiple centers in Yenagoa, Ogbia, Brass, Sagbama, Kolokuma/Opokuma, Southern Ijaw, and Ekeremor LGAs, which will host both the preliminary stages and LGA finals.

Renovations are expected at various locations to ensure a vibrant and successful tournament.
