The proprietor of Udala FC, High Chief Philip Chukwunonso Udala has eulogied Anambra State Executive Governor, His Excellency Chief Willie Obiano on his effort in giving sports infrastructure in the state a facelift by the award of the contract to Monimichelle Sports Facility Construction Ltd to construct the Awka Stadium to meet CAF and FIFA International Standard.
Chief Udala made this disclosure during an interview with Sports Writers on Thursday in Awka. Chief Udala stated that this will go a long way in the promotion and growth of football and by extension other sports in the state. “The award of contract for the construction of the Awka Township Stadium is a welcome development for we club owners as we have been clamoring and yearning years past for the state capital to have its own stadium. Am absolutely delighted that the State Government has done so on this front and has chosen the best in the land in terms of sports facility construction to execute this assignment,” He said.
Chief Udala pointed out that the stadium upon its completion will put Awka in the limelight sportswise in the federation. He said: ” With the development, I see a situation where Anambra will be on the spotlight and stake a claim to host one of our national teams in months to come, this will certainly be a dream come true as it will project the Awka Capital City to the entire nation and the continent at large,” Udala enthused.
Chief Udala posited that the Awka Stadium not only provides the platform for human capacity development but also will enhance the economic visibility of the state via entertainment and tourism. Chief Udala also commended the Chairman Anambra State Sports Development Commission (ASSDC), Tony Oli, for his exploits and technical competence towards sports development in the state. He called on ‘Ndi Anambra’ to support and pray for the speedy and successful completion of this project which he hoped will be a massive and world-class edifice.
