Abubakar Bala, the PRO for Team Sokoto at the 7th NYG in Asaba 2023, offers his insights into the team’s overall performance at the event.
“Throughout this event, our team only faced defeat once. We emerged victorious in all our other games. Out of the 36 states in the federation, we proudly secured second and third positions for Sokoto, Nigeria. We owe our gratitude to our executive governor, Dr Ahmad Aliyu, and our honourable commissioner of youth and sports development for their invaluable support.
Their sponsorship and provision of all necessary resources for the athletes enabled us to shine on this national stage. We have shown that we honour our name from the seat of the caliphate, Sokoto, Nigeria.
Our achievements have garnered appreciation, not only within Sokoto but also from far beyond. Our athletes have excelled, bringing home gold and bronze medals,” he explained.
