Principals’ Cup To Return As Running LGA Chairman, Sunday Obanubi Pledges Support For Sports Development In Ifako Ijaiye

Sports development at the grassroots continues to be a major challenge and an untapped well of potential for the country on all fronts but many seem to be getting the message gradually, thanks to few individuals, companies, and media houses who have dedicated their time to propagate the gospel of grassroots sports.

Sunday Obanubi who is running for the post of the Local Government Area Chairman of Ifako Ijaiye has opened up on his plans for sports in his LGA and promises to make an impact in the community in an interview with Sports247.

“The area of sports is captured in our youth advancement program and what we want to do is very simple,” he said. ” We want to make sports attractive, rewarding to our people, create more sports locations among the seven wards under our local government and create more sporting activities within the council,” Mr. Sunday said.

“By this, we will definitely restore the Principals’ Cup in Ifako Ijaiye. Boxing is one of the dominant sports in the area and that’s fine but football has to be brought back to our streets, inter-street competitions will be encouraged as well and partnership with amazing guys and organizations that are doing their bit in the LGA because partnership brings a whole lot of good in sports for the community,” he added.

Mr. Sunday is running for chairmanship under the All Progressive Congress (APC) party and he assured the people of Ifako Ijaiye that sporting activities will return to the community as well as a huge advancement in Sports.

“Sports advancement is paramount to us. I’m a youth as well and I usually engage in Tennis and that’s one of the sports we want to invest in big time and as we speak we already have a couple of proposals in this regard that will bring our plans to actualization,” he concluded.
