In a resounding celebration of youthful talent and sportsmanship, the 7th edition of the National Youth Games (NYG) concluded at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba with Delta State emerging as the victorious hosts, securing their seventh consecutive NYG title with an impressive total of 116 medals.

Team Delta’s triumphant performance featured a remarkable haul of 51 gold, 34 silver, and 31 bronze medals, solidifying their status as the powerhouse of youth sports.
Team Lagos secured the second position with a total of 61 medals, including 21 gold, 19 silver, and 21 bronze, while Edo State claimed the third spot with 21 gold, 15 silver, and 17 bronze medals.
Acknowledging the profound impact of the NYG, President Bola Tinubu praised the event for generating both direct and indirect employment opportunities within the sports value chain, especially for the host state.
This recognition underscores the NYG’s significance in nurturing young talent and contributing to the growth of sports at the grassroots level.
At the closing ceremony, Sports Minister John Enoh lauded the Delta State Government for its invaluable partnership in sports development.
The Minister, represented by Acting Director of Grassroots Sports Development Mr. Patrick Okeke, commended the NYG for consistently meeting expectations and playing a pivotal role in nurturing athletes who have gone on to achieve national acclaim.
Furthermore, Minister Enoh highlighted the NYG’s positive impact on the state’s economy and expressed the Ministry’s commitment to exploring partnerships that would further enhance sports development across the nation.
Notably, over 400 athletes have been identified from participating states during the Games.

Representing Delta State Government, Secretary Kingsley Emu, in lieu of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, extended heartfelt congratulations to Team Delta and all participating teams for their exceptional efforts.
Emu commended the Local Organising Committee (LOC), led by Tonobok Okowa, for their unwavering dedication, which played a pivotal role in the Games’ success.
Governor Oborevwori echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the importance of preparation, discipline, focus, teamwork, and sportsmanship as principles that lead to success, both in sports and life. He urged those who did not secure medals to maintain their champion spirit and apply the lessons learned in their daily lives.
The Governor expressed gratitude to the event’s organizers, including the Federal Ministry of Sports Development, Delta State Sports Commission, and the Local Organising Committee, for their significant contributions to the development of sports in the country.
