This initiative was revealed by Hon. Sunday Asefon, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Students Engagement, during a working visit to the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC). Asefon stated that the goal is to ensure students at all educational levels are registered and have access to digital identification.
“This integration will not only support data-driven policymaking but also link students to opportunities such as internships, skills acquisition programs, and job placements, empowering them for future endeavors,” he explained.
He added that the partnership between his office and NIMC will focus on raising awareness in secondary schools and higher institutions, ensuring students obtain their NINs for uses beyond exam registration. The initiative also seeks to combat identity fraud and secure students’ personal data.
The Director General of NIMC expressed the commission’s readiness to collaborate with the Federal Ministry of Youth Development and the Ministry of Education to achieve these goals.
She highlighted ongoing efforts to increase awareness on campuses and commended the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for its innovative and impactful programs.
