Nigeria Premier League side, El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguiri has lamented the cost of playing the home leg of their CAF preliminary round of the at the Remo Stars stadium in Ikenne Ogun State, Sports247 reports.
El-Kanemi home stadium in Maiduguiri was not approved by CAF in the preliminary inspection of stadium for the competition as the team had to seek alternatives by registering the MKO Abiola Stadium Abuja as their home ground for the continental assignment and the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, (MJA) Onikan Lagos as back up.
But in a new communication, CAF rejected MKO Abiola Stadium as well as the MJA and directed the team play their preliminary first round match against Dadje FC of Benin Republic in Ikenne at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ogun State.
The commissioner of Sports in the state, Sainna Buba, is not happy with the decision.
Sainna decried the non availability of a suitable stadium in the north for the CAF Confederation Cup assignments as submitted that new CAF directive will cost the state between 5 Million and 6 Millions of Naira in terms of logistics to host the match in Ogun State.
“The past few days we have been battling to see how we can change this as they have released a bulletin that we will play in Remo (Ikenne).”
“And playing there we have to pay 5-6 million naira before we can use the stadium so we are trying to sort out many things at the moment.
“It is unfortunate that throughout the North there is no stadium that can host us”, asper Foot-Afrik.
The cost covers the transportation, accommodation as well as the payment for the usage of the Remo Stars stadium.
