Nigerian players union has sent a congratulatory to retired Nigerian professional footballer, Daniel Amokachi on his appointment as Nigeria’s Football Ambassador by President Muhammadu Buhari.
A statement on Tuesday signed by the President’s Spokesman, Garba Shehu, stated that as, “Nigeria’s Football Ambassador, a largely ceremonial role, Amokachi will assist the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development to scout for talents, be part of processes to revive the country’s football development, as well as mentor young men and women athletes.
In the congratulatory message signed by NANPF President, Tijani Babangida,MON, it described the appointment as a well deserved honour for a patriotic Nigerian. Who had meritoriously served and made the nation proud at several continental and global football championships.
He was a member of the 1994 Super Eagles Team that won the African Nations Cup in Tunisia, and was also in the Nigerian Olympic Football Team to the 1996 Atlanta Olympics that won the Gold Medal.
