The National Association of Nigerian Professional Footballers (NANPF), has released a ‘thank God’ statement on the fire that gutted the bus of Lobi Stars football club last night on Naka road, few kilometers away from Makurdi on the way back from Ilorin, Kwara state, where the club had defeated Kwara United 1-0 in an NPFL 2019/2020 Match Day 22.
According to a statement signed by Danladi Musa, the Assistant General Secretary on Communications, on behalf of NANPF’s President, Tijani Babangida,MON, it thanked God that no life was lost in the fire incident, which was allegedly caused by an auto electrical fault in the bus conveying the team.
” These are certainly, torrid times for Nigerian football. Unfortunately, we have lost three players in a spate of few days. Namely, Tiyamiu Kazeem, Kabiru Baleria and Sule Kekere. And now, this fire incident.
“I want to also use this opportunity to call for prayers to God, to save Nigerian footballers and our football from all the known and unknown problems besetting our football, ” he added.
The union enjoined the players and management of the team to look beyond the unfortunate incident, and forge ahead in its quest for sporting excellence. While adding that the union would continue to protect and project the welfare and future fortunes of Nigerian footballers, home and diaspora.
