Peter Nieketien Expresses Concerns Over Unbalanced Super Eagles Squad

Peter Nieketien Criticizes Peseiro's Player Selection for Lack of Midfield Balance

Former Warri Wolves Coach, Peter Nieketien, has voiced his dissatisfaction with the recently released list of players by Super Eagles head coach, Jose Santos Peseiro.

Nieketien contends that the squad lacks proper balance, particularly in the midfield, potentially leaving the team vulnerable in case of injuries.

Expressing his reservations, Nieketien commented, “I am not too satisfied with the list of players released by the head coach. It seems there is an imbalance, especially in the midfield. Peseiro may be focusing more on the attacking front, potentially leaving us exposed if a midfielder or two get injured.”

The seasoned coach emphasizes the importance of a well-balanced squad, particularly when it comes to crucial positions like midfield.

He raises concerns about the team’s ability to cope with injuries in a vital area of the pitch. “If we have any injured midfielder or try to bring an attacker to play the role of a midfielder, it is not going to work out well,” Nieketien warns, underlining the potential pitfalls of an unbalanced lineup.

Nieketien argues that the final squad selection should encompass a balance across all positions to ensure adaptability during the tournament.

“With the calibre of players we have, some of them can manage to fall back and play as an attacking midfielder or defensive midfielder,” he suggests, highlighting the versatility that a well-rounded squad could offer.

As the Super Eagles prepare for the African Cup of Nations, Nieketien’s critique raises important considerations for the coaching staff.

The balance between attack and defence, especially in the midfield, may prove pivotal for the team’s success in the upcoming tournament.
