Ex-international striker, Peter Ijeh believes the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) would be rated high across Africa and the world once improved features are added to make it glamorous, Sports247 reports.
Ijeh, who played a couple of matches for the Super Eagles during his heyday as a Sweden-based hitman, opined that the NPFL needs better branding, regular corporate sponsorship and incursion of players from other countries for it to gain a highly respected status.

Ijeh added, “We still need to look inwards and work to see what we can introduce to make our league better. Let us copy South Africa, for example. Maybe only one per cent or two per cent of their players go out to play. They stay at home to play in South Africa because their league is more defined.
They are refined and have a good brand for sponsorship and things like that; but we are still stagnant. We need to move in order to grow.”
Ijeh further reckoned that favouritism and politics should be removed from all facets of football organisation in Nigeria in order for the domestic league to evolve into an admirable brand.
“People that know this game need to come in. Let us leave politics, sentiments, and emotional reactions that are currently affecting us. Let us see people who have the knowledge to take our football to the next level. We can slso pick players coming from abroad to better our league,” Ijeh posited.
