Perth Glory has made a significant addition to their defense by signing Nigerian international Onyinyechi Zogg for the upcoming 2024-25 Liberty A-League season.
The 27-year-old defender has agreed to a one-year deal with the Australian club, bringing extensive experience from European football.
Zogg, who was born in Switzerland to a Swiss father and a Nigerian mother, boasts an impressive career that includes stints at several top European clubs.
She has previously played for Young Boys, FC Zürich, and Servette FC in Switzerland, ASJ Soyaux in France, Turbine Potsdam in Germany, and FC Bethlehem in Israel.
Notably, she made four appearances in the UEFA Women’s Champions League with FC Zürich between 2019 and 2020. In 2021, Zogg debuted for Nigeria’s Super Falcons, further enhancing her international profile.
Expressing her enthusiasm about the move, Zogg said, “When my manager mentioned the possibility of joining Perth Glory, I jumped at the opportunity.
I’ve heard a lot about the quality of the A-League and have always wanted to experience it. Now, to do this with Perth Glory is a fantastic opportunity. I’m eager to meet my teammates and coach in person and contribute to the club’s success.”
Perth Glory head coach Stephen Peters lauded Zogg as a “technical and athletic defender,” highlighting that her signing is part of a broader strategy to strengthen the squad.
Zogg is the seventh new player to join Glory this season, joining a roster that includes key returning players such as Jessika Cowart, Susan Phonsongkham, and Izzy Foletta.
Zogg’s addition is expected to bring much-needed experience and stability to Glory’s backline as they prepare for a successful campaign in the Liberty A-League.
