Expressing their dissatisfaction with CSKA Moscow’s conduct, Heerenveen has officially
lodged a petition against the Russian club, as reported by Voetbal Primeur.
The issue remains unresolved, leaving SC Heerenveen waiting for the complete transfer fee for the highly talented 25-year-old Nigerian player. Ejuke’s move to CSKA Moscow was
finalized in 2020 for a substantial sum of twelve million euros. While the first three payment installments were successfully made according to the agreed terms, the fourth payment, a significant amount of three million euros due in May 2022, was not fulfilled, causing great uncertainty for Heerenveen.
CSKA Moscow has attributed the delay in transferring the outstanding amount to the
sanctions imposed on Russian banks due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. However,
Heerenveen remains unconvinced by this explanation and feels powerless in their attempts to resolve the issue.
Ferry de Haan, the director of Heerenveen, has revealed that they have tried involving
various authorities, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, but they acknowledge the
unlikelihood of cooperation from CSKA Moscow. With FIFA now handling the case,
Heerenveen is left waiting for a resolution.
Interestingly, Chidera Ejuke, the player at the center of this transfer dispute, spent the
current season on loan at Hertha BSC in the German Bundesliga. Ejuke bypassed CSKA
Moscow by using FIFA’s provision to suspend his contract in Russia against the club’s
wishes. However, following Hertha Berlin’s relegation on the final day of the season, Ejuke
parted ways with the club.
He is expected to return to CSKA Moscow for the upcoming season, but reports suggest that several Premier League clubs in England are interested in acquiring his services. The
outcome of the transfer dispute and the involvement of FIFA will play a crucial role in
determining Ejuke’s future club and the resolution of the financial obligations between
Heerenveen and CSKA Moscow.
