Players of newly promoted Nigerian Women club, Pelican Queens of Calabar will embark on a peaceful protest to Cross River State Government House by 8AM tomorrow, Wednesday 25th March 2020.
The protest is in view of the months of unpaid salaries and bonuses of the players who were told to take a two weeks break today, Tuesday 24th March 2020 due to health precautionary directive from the Federal Ministry of Health on the Corona Virus pandemic.
A player of the club who pleaded her identity to be anonymous narrated bitterly of how the players will go home to observe the break when they do not even have transport fare talk more of having what to eat.
Another player also anonymous confirmed that many back home depend on on her as the breadwinner, that she is stranded in Calabar.
Pelican Queens of Calabar were suppose to kick start their status in the Nigerian Women. Premier League on 18th March, 2020 with a home fixture against Nasarawa Amazons but the match was cancelled by the apex body who affirmed that some clubs could not pay up all outstanding monies owed to players which is a criteria for a club to participate in the current 2020/21 footballing campaign.
Passionate fans and football lovers based in Cross River State have appealed that the demands of the players be paid in full by the Cross River State Government to save the state from embarrassment.
