The bus, which departed Lagos at 10:00 am on Wednesday, was heavily loaded with luggage and waybills, leaving passengers crammed into limited space with little room to stretch their legs.
The first significant delay occurred shortly after Ore, where the bus broke down due to a faulty alternator. The passengers were forced to wait by the roadside while the driver attempted repairs, delaying the journey by over two hours.
A passenger travelling to Asaba complained ” This is not the first time I am travelling with them and every time, it is one problem or the other. I don’t know when they will change.”
Another passenger going to Owerri said ” Why didn’t they check this vehicle yesterday. This journey has not even started and we are already wasting time on the road. The roads are not even safe. What time will someone arrive where they are going?”
The situation worsened as the driver announced an unscheduled overnight stop in Onitsha, where passengers had to sleep on mats, inside buses, or on benches exposed to mosquitoes.
The journey resumed early the next morning but continued to face delays as passengers were transferred between different PMT vehicles and the bus kept stopping at their park at various locations, including Owerri, Umuahia, and Uyo.
The journey, which should have been completed within a day, stretched into the following afternoon, with the bus finally arriving in Calabar at 5:00 pm on Thursday.
Passengers expressed dissatisfaction with the poor communication from the driver and the disorganized transfer process, calling for Peace Mass Transit to improve its customer service and operational efficiency.
