Paris 2024: Team Nigeria’s Captain, Opeyori To Start Campaign On Tuesday

Team Nigeria’s captain, Anuoluwapo Opeyori will start her quest for Olympic glory on Tuesday , (July 30 2024).

The African Badminton number one player takes to the court this Tuesday as he square up against Switzerland’s Tobias Kunzi in a Group N contest that also has China’s Li Shifeng, in the Round of 16.

He takes to court against Kunzi at 7.30pm local time (6.30pm in Nigeria) at the Porte de La Chapelle Arena.

Only one of the trio will advance to the next round. Opeyori’s opponent, Tobias Kunzi this Monday lost his first match to the seeded Chinese player, Li Shifeng. It was a two straight set of 21-13 in each set.

Opeyori will meet the seeded Li Shifeng on Wednesday.

Anuoluwapo Opeyori is one of the over 173 badminton players who are competing at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

His qualification means that he is the first Nigerian player to qualify for two Olympic Games after featuring at the delayed Tokyo 2020.

Opeyori dominated Africa in the men’s singles from 2019 till date, winning four African Championship titles and two African Games titles.
