It was a free fall of defeats for Team Nigeria in the Table Tennis singles event at the 2024 Paris Paralympics on Sunday as all the three Nigeria’s representatives crashed off their events in quick succession, Sports247 reports.
In the men’s singles class 8 which was completed on Sunday, Croatia’s Borna Zohil eliminated Victor Farinloye as the Nigerian lost in 3 straight sets 11-7, 11-7, 11-7 to exit the competition in the round of 32.
Alabi Olabiyi Olufemi also failed in his bid to get past his opponent in the Round of 16 of Men’s singles class 10 as Liao Hao of China proved too good for the Nigerian.
The Chinese brushed aside Alabi with an easy 3-0 victory, 11-6,11-6, 11-7 to qualify into the quarter finals with Alabi exiting the competition.
The story was the same in the Women’s singles class 10, round of 16 Chinese Taipe’s Tian Shiau-wen swept out Faith Obazuaye in three straight sets 11-4, 11-8 and 11-3.
The performance of Nigeria’s Table Tennis team to the 2024 Paris Paralympics has been so poor as none of the representatives was able to win a single set in both the doubles and singles’ event.
