Paris 2024: Enekwechi Shines Amidst Team Nigeria’s Strings Of Poor Results On Friday

Enekwechi Chukwuebuka is the shining light for Team Nigeria Friday (2nd of August 2024) campaign at the Paris 2024 Olympics as Nigeria effectively attend their charge for medals in Athletics.

Chukwuebuka Enekwechi was the last competitor of the day and he churned out the best result of the day by qualifying for the final of Men’s Discuss.

He became the first Nigerian to make it the final of any event at the Paris 2024 Olympics after he threw 12.13 meter and 21.10 meter to achieve the feat.

He finished Fifth in his group and Ninth overall as the best 12 finisher in the two groups make the Saturday final.

It wasn’t so smooth for the Nigerian duo of Chioma Onyekwere, Ashley Anumba and Amaechi OP crashed out of the event missing out on the finals list.

Anunba the African champion threw a disappointing mark of 58.83 to finish 14th in her group, missing out on a place in the final, while
Onyekwere Chioma finished overall at the 15th her group with 60.78 and Amaechi finished at 16th with 45.45 m.

Meanwhile Rosemary Chukwuma qualified for the Semi Final in the 100 meter Women event after she finished third in her heat with 11.26s while her compatriot Tima Godbless finished in a disappointing sixth position to crashed out of the event with returnind time of 11.33s.

The 4× 400 meter relay team ( quartet of Samuel Ogazi, Ella Onojuvwevwo, Emmanuel Ifeanyi Ojeli and Patience Okon-George)
took to the track and fought gallantly for a place in the final but they fell short after returning a new national record of
3:11.99s, which is only good as a consolation for their effort after missing out on the main prize.

They narrowly missed out on the final placement finishing ninth but only the best 8 finishers are needed for the final.

Similarly, Temitope Anuoluwapo, Nigeria only entry in the high Jump failed to progress beyond the first round of the high Jump event.

Her best effort of 1.88m could only place her in the 19th position but only the top 12 finishers were selected for the final.
