The Nigerian finished 5th in the 2nd heat of the Repechage round, clocking a time of 45.92s an effort not good enough to get him a semi final qualification.
Chidi Okezie will now shift his focus and attention to Nigeria’s men’s 4x400m team who will be competing at the Olympics later .
It’s almost a similar fate in the Women category of the event as the duo of Esther Elo-Joseph and Ella Onojuvwevwo could only be made Repechage round after falling short in their respective heats on Monday.
Joseph, despite having a great start but she finished poorly in the 7th position in a time of 52.13s, missing the automatic qualification spot.
Similarly Ella, led heat 3 field coming into the last bend, but she couldn’t sustain the momentum in the final stretch to hold on for an automatic qualifying position.
Ella finished 6th in that race in a time of 51.65s, which is only good enough for the Repechage rounds.
Both Ello and Ella will fight for their place in Semi Finals on Tuesday via the newly introduced Repechahe round.
