Paris 2024: Aruna Quadri, Others Stumble To Nigeria’s All Time Low In Table Tennis Olympics

After the end of the day 3 of the Paris 2024 Olympics, Nigeria Table Tennis contingents have hit an all time low for failure of any of the players to win a single match.

The unprecedented zero victory show, is the worst team appearance by the Table Tennis contingents since the Inauguration of the Table Tennis event at the Soul 88 Olympics.

Nigeria only entered four players in the table, two each for the Men’s and Women’s single event after bagging their qualification at the 2024 African games in Ghana.

Earlier on Monday morning, Fatimo Bello lost 4-0 to French Jia Nan Yuan (1-11, 3-11, 3-11, 5-1) in the rounds of 64 of the women single to complete the losing route charted by her mates over the weekend.

Aruna Quadri and Omotayo Olajide were eliminated on Saturday in the men’s singles. Effiong Edem follows suit on Sunday all losing out after their first matches.

The failure of any one of the players to win at a game means the contingent returned with only no medals.

Nigeria recorded her best appearance in the Olympics table tennis was in Rio 2016 where Aruna Quadri reached the quarter finals, to become the first African to reach the quarter final of the Olympics and the highest position ever reached by an African at the Olympics.
