Paralympic Committee of Nigeria (PCN) secretary-general, Suleiman Isah has disclosed that all newly elected members of the board are happy to be part of the body’s first ever election, sports247.ng reports.
Isah said the executive committee members are already making plans for a successful tenure, as they are all determined to do everything to ropel their events, starting with a place at the All Africa Games.
He disclosed that the new board has Brig.Gen. Eruwa Emico as president, Bankole Anderson Abiodun as first vice-president, Akindoju Idedayo Olaloye as second vice-president.
Members of the board include Lawal Modupe Abosede (the treasurer), Odior Sunday Ketu (assistant secretary) as well as Ruel Ishaku and Flora Uwunwa as male and female players’ representatives respectively.
Isah, who acknowledged that he is equally thrilled to be the first elected scribe of the PCN, said inclusion of the sport in the All Africa Games will boost their pogress and offer their athletes wider exposure.
He said it would be an opportunity to showcase their skills while proving beyond doubt that there is ability in disability.
The PCN scribe also dismissed talk that the recent election was not fair, as he insists it was conducted in accordance with their constitution.
Isah added: “This is the first time we are having an election into the board of PCN in the history of para-sports in Nigeria.
“That’s why the congress upheld the provision that zonal representative must be persons with disabilities and existing board members.
“Everything was done to make it credible, even candidates for executive positions were nominated by the federation.
“This has shown that the country is ready to embrace the best practices in the management of para-sports.
“The new Executive believes so strongly that getting the sport into the All Africa Games will make a huge difference.
“We intend to collaborate with African Paralympic Federation to achieve this.”
