Papa Soccer Angels reignited their promotion ambitions with a commanding 5-1 victory over Chosen Generation during Matchday 2 of the NWFL Championship 2024 in Calabar, Sports247 reports.
With only two promotion spots available in the 19-team competition, the Angels’ emphatic win was crucial as they look to climb the standings and secure one of the coveted places in the top tier.
The Angels, who suffered a 3-0 defeat to Ibom Angels earlier in the tournament, came out determined to make a statement. The scoring began in the 37th minute when Ajewole Oyindamola slotted the ball into the net, giving Papa Soccer Angels an early lead.
As the first half progressed, Ugochi Ifebi furthered the advantage with a goal in the 43rd minute. The second half saw Ifebi adding her second goal in stoppage time (46+2′), effectively putting the match out of reach for Chosen Generation.
Despite a brief flicker of hope for Chosen Generation when Ogaga-Oghene scored in the 76th minute to make it 3-1, the Angels were quick to extinguish any hopes of a comeback. Anthony Elizabeth netted a stunning goal in the 82nd minute, furthering Papa Soccer Angels’ dominance. The final blow came in the dying moments of the game, as Chigbo Margaret scored in the 90+3′ minute, sealing a comprehensive 5-1 victory.
“Today’s performance was a testament to the hard work and dedication of the team,” said Papa Soccer Angels’ coach. “We are focused and determined to continue this momentum in the upcoming matches.”
With only two promotion spots up for grabs, every match is crucial for Papa Soccer Angels. As they eye a place in the NWFL Premiership, the pressure will only intensify in the coming fixtures. This victory, however, puts them in a strong position as the competition heats up, promising more thrilling encounters in the race for promotion.
