The non-league side and Ibadan Football Association (IFA) League runners-up, Saki United defeated Oyo State Housing Corporation FC in the final of the 2022 Oyo state FA Cup on Wednesday evening to win their first trophy since the team was founded nine years ago.
Saki United beat the big name of the tournament and NPFL side, Shooting Stars F.C 5-4 on penalties to book their spot in 2022 final while Oyo Housing Corporation F.C defeated Oyo’A’ F.C 3-2 in shootouts after playing one-all in regulation time to set up a final showdown with the Oke-Ogun based club.
In the final that took place at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba Ibadan, Soliu Awhal gave Saki United an early lead in the match before Saka Saheed doubled the lead minutes later to give the Oke-Ogun club a comfortable 2-0 first-half win.
Omole Segun put on back for Housing Corporation F.C from the spot-kick in the 55th minute to reduce the deficit, keeping the hope of turning things around in the encounter. However, Saka Saheed got his brace to restore Saki United’s two-goal thriller in the match.
The 2-0 disparity didn’t seem to bother determined Oyo State Housing Corporation FC who were so focused on creating an upset in the match, that their efforts finally paid off when Yussuf Adekunle reduced the deficit once again in the 85th minute but it wasn’t enough to save the day.
Saki United came out 3-2 victorious in the game to claim the 2022 Oyo State Aiteo Cup title which is their first-ever trophy since the was established in 2013.
Meanwhile, Emmanuel Lucky scored thrice as NPFL side, Shooting Stars F.C defeated Oyo ‘A’ F.C 3-2 to secure a third place finish. Hammed Oladele netted the two Oyo ‘A’ goals in the third-place match.
