Owena Kings Handball Club of Akure coach, Tommy Olalude has revealed the secrets of his side’s stunning 27-26 victory against Kano Pillars at the Nigerian Handball Premier League in Lagos, saying it was because he and his crew members studied the opponents well before the game.
Olalude was ecstatic, as victory on Thursday saw his side escape a drop in relegation, but he boasted that the Akure outfit deserved to remain in the Prudent Energy Handball League.
He, however, admitted it was a hard fought match, as Owena Kings led the first half 16-12 but almost threw away the game in the second half.
Olalude said his boys promised to win the game before kick off, and says he was happy that they kept their promise, even as they followed to the letter all instructions from the technical crew throughout the game.
The amiable coach said: “We thank God for everything. Having watched Kano Pillars matches several times, we sat down and discussed what to do to defeat them.
“I thank God that, at the end of the day, we triumphed. Due to the determination of my boys, they promised me that they will win this game.
“I told them to put the ball into the net, not to be in a hurry, ensure that they rally the ball round and whosoever is shooting the ball must make sure he is putting the ball into the back of the net.”
