Owatapa FC of Itapa were crowned the winner of the maiden edition of the Under-18 Ekiti Obas Cup also known as the Ekiti Youth Cup after defeating Apeju FC in the finals on Tuesday evening.
Owatapa took the lead within ten minutes of action at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium, Ado-Ekiti through an own goal but Apeju FC of Ilupeju scored a late equalizer through a well-placed finish inside the 18-yard to end the regulation time in a dramatic fashion.
Owatapa would later go on to win 6-5 on penalties to claim the maiden edition of the tournament.
In the third-place match, Alara FC of Aramoko defeated Oye’s Oloye FC to win the Bronze medal. The only goal in the encounter was scored by Owolabi Bunmi in the first half of the game.
The tournament is an initiative established by the chairman of the Ekiti chapter of the Sports Writers Association Of Nigeria(SWAN), Alhaji Qazeem Oladapo to develop grassroots football in the state.
