The tennis courts of Ikoyi Club 1938 will be busy in the next 10 days as the OVH Doubles Tournament takes centre stage. Already, 54 players have registered to feature in the competition, which has four categories.
According to the organisers, the players will battle in the Men’s Doubles A, Men’s Doubles B group 1& 2, Mixed Doubles group 1 & 2 and Veterans Doubles. This is the maiden edition of the tournament, which is expected to create so much excitement with interesting contests.
The organisers disclosed that members of the tennis section of the club are excited about this tournament, which is aimed at keeping them busy and creating bragging rights among them. President of the Ikoyi Club Tennis section, Abimbola Okubena, said he was elated that the club is getting busier with tournaments of various ranges.
“We just finished a tournament less than two weeks ago and we are having another one. It is good for us and we are going to maintain the tradition. Everybody is busy including our children.
“The sponsors, OVH Energy, have done well for us and I am optimistic that this partnership is the beginning of great things to happen in the future,” Okubena said. The tournament ends on September 7.
