Now fewer that 20 boxing clubs are expected to take part in the one day Rotor Boxing Competition scheduled to hold on 10th, December at Imasuen Street, Mushin, Lagos.
The chairman Organising Committee, Bolaji Jenkeo in a chat with sports 247.ng said the one day boxing fiesta was organised to develop the boxing at the grassroots and discover some talents that can represent a state at the future national boxing competitions.
He revealed that more than 20 boxing clubs within and outside Lagos had registered for the tournament saying that the competition is well received by the boxing stakeholders.
“We have received clubs from Ogun state that want to bring their boxers for this competition.And I am happy that the competition has gone to interstate so we are expecting full house on Saturday,”he said.
Jenkeo who reveled that the one day tournament would start by 3pm was organised to bring the game of boxing back on track adding that many young ones in Mushin show more interest in football at the dertiment of other sports.
“We are organising this competition because boxing is another sport that attract fans in Mushin and it environs after football.We want our young ones to have interest in the boxing too and if we can see more sponsors we would organise the competition quarterly,” he said.
He however thanked the Treasurer of TOAN, Lagos chapter, Alhaji Wasiu Raufu popularly known as Headboy for his financial contribution for the competition.
He also revealed that the organisers have put security measures in place to punish any trouble fan that may want to forment trouble during the competition.
